My issue with trilogies

I get easily annoyed by "Am I the only one who...?" questions or posts. No, you aren't! Others have similar thoughts; you are not unique!
Having said that...
The Witcher 3 is supposedly one of the best RPGs out there. It is immersive, the characters are deep, and there are consequences to your actions that you won't find out until hours later. It is exactly the type of game I want to play, but I can't. It feels like cheating if I just skip the first two-thirds and get to the good stuff. So, I'm currently traipsing around in a dungeon underneath a muddy village beset by ghost dogs in The Witcher 1.
It’s the same thing with series I have already played. Mass Effect 2 is easily one of my favorite games because of how it zooms in on the galaxy and the massive gameplay improvements. But I've never started a game without importing a Shepherd from ME1.
With other series like Wasteland, Elder Scrolls, or Dragon Age, it is less of an issue. It helps that you generally play with a new character instead of being in a straight continuation. Granted, seeing a bearded Hawke instead of my bald dude is odd, but I can live with that.
I guess what I am mainly curious about is what the experience is for other gamers who don't have that issue. Who just start in the middle or last episode of a series without any issue. I have only talked about RPGs here, but there are other series like Halo and Gears of War where I'd have the same issue. I want to give The Master Chief Collection a try at some point, but I've been told the first game takes a lot of wading through with repetitive content. But how can I appreciate the later games if I haven't experienced that?
So, what I am really asking is: Am I the only one?
